Get Me Connected makes a big impact at the biggest event show

 

Get Me Connected was a main sponsor of this year’s flagship Event Production Show in London, one of the key dates in the industry’s calendar.

 

In fact, it was hard to miss our presence at London’s Kensington Olympia. The Get Me Connected logo could be seen from across the vast venue, on a banner hanging from the 115ft high ceiling above the mezzanine Networking Bar. GMC sponsored the bar, which featured mobile phone charging points and branded beermats.

 

Our large exhibition stand – manned by five of the GMC team – showcased the impressive kit we use to deploy award-winning WiFi to events at venues as diverse as festival fields  and nuclear bunkers.

 

Our popular plug-and-play WiFi package generated a lot of interest, being a complete event WiFi solution in a flight case the size of airline carry-on luggage, which has an option to be completely self-powered so you can use it just about anywhere.

 

In fact, the entire stand was powered from battery packs charged up from solar energy at Get Me Connected headquarters. They provided electricity for our lights, computers, phone charge points, TV – and WiFi, of course – for the whole two days, hardly putting a dent in their charge. (We’ve run a TV for seven days straight on battery pack with a single charge!)

 

The TV on the stand displayed the latest GMC promotional videos as well as a news ticker and latest event tweets.

 

Perhaps the biggest talking point wasn’t the tech at all, though – our miniature scale model of a music festival had attendees lining up to take photo and cooing things like “It’s so sweet, I love it!”

 

The model features a main stage in front of a crowd of arm-waving festival-goers, trees, cars, tents, loos, ancient standing stones and GMC WiFi installations all painstakingly recreated in miniature form. And the whole thing packs away into a sturdy flight case.

 

Enormous by comparison but still compact by normal human standards was our self-provisioning satellite dish. It uses GPS to locate itself in the UK and then automatically aligns with the right signal, allowing for elevation in relation to the satellite. It can sit on top of a van or just on a flight case and can establish a satellite link within two minutes. Clever stuff.

 

Of course, the Get Me Connected eco event WiFi stand was also in the tech line-up. A simple tripod-mounted pole carries the bridge antenna that connects with the GMC base trailer plus the access point that gets everyone’s devices online. And it can run off one of our battery packs meaning it can be deployed anywhere with no trailing cables or the need for mains power.

 

Get Me Connected CEO Adam Steadman said: “For us, being at the Event Production Show is about two key things. The first is to make sure we continue to be recognised as the go-to people for event WiFi and to showcase our latest industry-leading technology.
